Have you ever heard of Kundalini yoga? I’ve been wanting to try it ever since my best friend told me how much she loved it – and how empowered the practice made her feel! So when I found out that a yoga studio in West Palm Beach, Florida, actually offered these classes, I was excited to take a class.
Gyrotonic Satnam is a fitness studio and wellness boutique, which also showcases Mukha Essentials “make-up as skin-care” line. I particularly loved the Tea Counter, which serves loose leaf tea with Kangen Water (look it up, it’s very cool).
Kundalini yoga is defined as “a blend of Bhakti Yoga (the yogic practice of devotion and chanting), Raja Yoga (the practice of mediation/mental and physical control) and Shakti Yoga, (for the expression of power and energy).” All I know is that when my bestie told me she took a class and felt like her energy was extremely powerful, I knew it was something that could activate my “higher self.” Not to be all kooky on you, but I LOVE that idea! I do believe we are beings made out of energy, and we have barely tapped into our true potential.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the class, but I kept an open mind. It was chanting, breath work and more – and I’ll admit my favorite part of the class was when we did sound work with a Chinese gong. Don’t laugh, but I told the instructor that I used to play the Chinese gong just like hers back in my percussion ensemble days! I loved the sound of it, and it woke up my baby in my belly. He got active, and I thought it was so fun!
Speaking of my baby, since I’m pregnant, I really appreciated that the instructor was extra-focused on my comfort level. She made sure I had a cushion to sit on while we were on the floor, which helped my balance (since, let’s face it, my belly is really large right now). I wondered how she was so knowledgeable about pregnancy – and it turns out that she’s a doula! It made perfect sense to me once I learned that. Doulas are amazing.
I also appreciated that she took the time to explain everything, from the meditation to each breathing practice. It helped me feel like I better understood what the purpose was for each step.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and I definitely plan to return for more yoga at Gyrotonic Satnam after I have my baby! I highly recommend you check it out, if you are in South Florida. Cheers to Kundalini!
You’re the best! Loved having you 🙂
Thank you so much for having me!!
