Does your baby suffer from gas? Here's an all-natural, easy and affordable homemade tea recipe that can help! Share on X

My baby’s pediatrician has told me that ALL babies get gassy – it mostly has to do with the amount of air that they swallow. All babies cry, and crying can cause them to swallow air – it can be a vicious cycle. I also read in a book that most babies have a really bad gassy phase around weeks 6 to weeks 8. The author had worked with hundreds of babies, and it was a phenomenon that she saw playing out over and over. She suspected it has to do with a development in their digestive system, so she reassured parents that this is normal, and to be expected. Still, it doesn’t make it easier when your baby is suffering!

My baby, Cam, had a particularly bad bout of gassiness when he was about 6 weeks old. He would scream, and I would walk the floor with him, feeling helpless as I watched him suffer. I wish I had known this recipe back then!

Here is the recipe for this all-natural, gas-eliminating tea that has worked wonders for my baby. A lady whose children are now adults told me about this tea recipe, which she says truly helped her first two children (although she admitted it did not help her third child at all – because every baby is different).

Baby Cam gets gassy – this tea has helped him so much

***CARAWAY SEED TEA RECIPE FOR BABIES***

Boil 1 teaspoon of caraway seeds (found in the spice aisle of your grocery store) in 8 ounces of purified water.

Let it cool, then strain out the seeds. Give your baby 0.5 to 1 ounce, depending on age. I would give the full ounce if the baby is at least 6-8 weeks old, and the half ounce if the baby is younger than that.

If desired, add 1 tsp of organic sugar (such as coconut sugar) to the cup of boiling water. I usually did not give the tea to my baby straight — since he is partially formula fed, I mixed the ounce of caraway seed tea with the appropriate measure of his powdered formula and let him drink it that way.

It really helped eliminate my baby’s gas! I also like that it’s an all-natural option rather than gas drops. I do give my baby gas drops regularly since it’s now part of our routine, but this helped us a lot when he was struggling with bad bouts of gas a few weeks ago.

If you’re a gassy adult, I’m not sure if it would work for you – but I figure it can’t hurt if you TRY IT. 🙂 I mean, it’s ALL NATURAL, lol! I admit I drank the rest of the cup of tea, since I would only give Baby Cam one ounce at a time, and I didn’t want to waste it.

My friend Clarissa says it’s also been working well for her 3-week-old baby. She gave it to him when he was 2 weeks old. When she told me that it was working, I decided I needed to write this blog to help share the recipe with other suffering babies and their parents!

  1. This is a great idea. Even my relatives suggested this for my kids. I also like to give them raisin soaked water.

  2. My son had a wonderful German pediatrician who gave me a recipe for caraway tea to make when he was colicky. She also suggested adding a teaspoon of dark Karo to it if he was constipated. LOVED her dearly!!
