My mom is Asian, so I joke that Asian food is my “soul food.” I could eat it all day every day and not get sick of it. So to say I’m discerning would likely be an understatement – and I was blown away by a hot new dining spot in northern Palm Beach County: Blackbird Modern Asian.
The restaurant features an inventive menu that pays homage to tried-and-true Asian classics while infusing them with fresh flavor.
Executive Chef Tim Nickey stopped by my table when I had the pleasure of enjoying a rare date night with my husband there, and graciously accepted my congratulations on walking the fine line between making food authentic but filled with depth and something new. I was genuinely impressed and will be telling my local Asian mom friends that this is the best new north county place to go!
Blackbird Modern Asian is located in Jupiter, and the upstairs outdoor bar is a vibe. You can see views of the iconic Jupiter lighthouse from that second floor spot, and don’t sleep on the Happy Hour menu and cocktails. I couldn’t believe they offer the Happy Hour every day, so be sure to check it out from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The decor is luxuriously appointed, brought to life through the vision of West Palm Beach interior designer Kat Solomon of Kat Solomon Design.
I loved the ambiance of the warm tones with touches like Buddha statues and a faux cherry blossom tree “planted” in the middle of the interior.
My favorite dish was the Garlic King Crab Noodles. The massive Alaskan crab legs placed on top complemented the jumbo lump blue crab mixed in, and the taste was soooo rich and delicious. I lack the words, but suffice it so say that it makes sense that the server said it’s heavily ordered.
My husband scarfed down the Insta-worthy Tempura Oysters, although thankfully I managed to snag one to taste.
When it comes to desserts, you really couldn’t go wrong with any of them. Shout out to the Executive Pastry Chef Denise Elrod, because all that we tasted were sooo good (and she made a name for herself on the Food Network when she won the episode of Guys Grocery Games that was dedicated to desserts).
I recommend the Chocolate Bomb for the little show you get when it melts under the hot fudge your server pours on top of it… YAS KWEEN! It reveals vanilla ice cream inside.
The restaurant is the brainchild of 3 Amigos LLC partners Scott Frielich of Subculture Group, Angelo Abbenante of Lynora’s, Cleve Mash of Clematis Social, and executive chef Tim Nickey. They chose Blackbird, a ubiquitous songbird emblematizing mystery, magic, and samsara, or rebirth, to name the spot.
Make your plans now to try this delectable new dining experience – you’ll be glad you did!
